“Build systems and conditions that endure beyond any single program or leader.” โ€”Dr. Treca Bourne

Ideas shaping MY work

Workflow clarity is a form of equity.

Poor system design disproportionately affects those with the least experience navigating institutions.

About

Dr. Treca Bourne in a Burnt Orange Dress

I have been committed to clarity, access, and workforce readiness throughout my careerโ€”beginning with supporting student access at a womenโ€™s college and a research university; advancing leadership, learning, and capability in open-access higher education institutions, an association, and a global professional services firm; and now developing clinical and human services workforces while continuing to teach at an open-access, adult-serving university. Across these environments, I design learning, leadership, and organizational development systems that are coherent, governed, operationally grounded, and built to endure beyond individual programs or leaders.

CURRENT ROLES

Organizational Learning and Development Strategist, Fairfaxโ€“Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB)
I lead and govern the enterprise learning ecosystem and partner with executive, clinical, and operational leaders to ensure learning and organizational development directly support service quality, compliance, and long-term workforce outcomes.

Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Maryland Global Campus
I teach adult learners in Information Systems Management with an emphasis on systems thinking, operational decision-making, and technology-enabled performance. My teaching reinforces my practice by grounding organizational development work in real-world systems concepts that shape how organizations learn, align, and operate at scale.

Building Systems and Conditions: The Hidden Work Behind Sustainable Change

When organizations talk about โ€œdoing things differently,โ€ the conversation often jumps straight to programs, workshops, or new tools. However, sustainable change rarely fails because of a single workshop. It fails because we have not done the deeper work of building systems and conditions that make better work possible and livable. This post unpacks what thatโ€ฆ

Designing for possibilities in instructional design when needs are not yet clear

Instructional design models typically assume that learners, clients, or stakeholders can articulate what they need. ADDIE, Design Thinking, needs assessment, and task analysis all work well once goals are understood and outcomes can be described. There is another category of work, however, that is increasingly relevant for instructional designers: the work that happens before peopleโ€ฆ

2026 Brand Refresh: Midcentury Modern + Meaningful Impact

As I reflected on how I want to show up in 2026, the answer arrived quickly: more deeply me. I wanted to bring forward the color that reflects who I am and the warmth that has always shaped how I lead, create, and connect. For several years, alignment has been my guiding word. In 2026,โ€ฆ

Thoughts & Talks

“I make music when I have something to say.” โ€”Sade

Like Sade, I write and speak when there is something to say. I do not create to fill space or meet a cadence. I share when the work itself has given me something to offer. Because my career has been shaped by public-sector human services and open-access higher education, youโ€™ll see those contexts show up here alongside my core focus on enterprise learning and organizational development.
